First, you need to assess your desired outcome. What is your business objective, what are the milestones by which you’ll determine the marketing to have been effective, or not effective? Second, you need to determine the macro environment within which you’re trading. Is there anything happening that could affect you, but over which you have no control. For example is there a strong chance that a change in legislation could significantly impact your ability to run your business effectively. Third, clearly define who your target market is. A lot of business marketing plans define “everyone” as the target market. But this is clearly not the case, it’s just lazy strategy development.
